Premiership weekend preview

Saturday:

Tottenham v Liverpool, live on Prem Plus - 12.45

A quarter of the goals Spurs conceded last season were from shots fired in from outside the box - the highest percentage in the top division. Liverpool finished fourth with the lowest-ever points tally (60) for that position in Premiership history.

Aston Villa v Southampton

Darius Vassell conceded 83 free kicks, the most of any player who did not get booked last term. Saints have won only one of their opening day fixtures in the 12 seasons of The Premiership.

Blackburn v West Brom

Rovers were the only top division side not to win a penalty in 2003/04. Blackburn had 18 different scorers last season - more than any other team.

Bolton v Charlton

Les Ferdinand scored the most headed goals (6) in the 2003/04 Premiership season. Matt Holland has been ever-present in his last three Premiership seasons and has not been booked in that time.

Man City v Fulham

Nicolas Anelka has scored in four of five games against Fulham. Andy Cole has scored on hs first appearance against Manchester City for each of his three previous Premiership clubs.

Norwich v Crystal Palace

Palace have never survived a Premiership season. The last six meetings between these two teams have ended in home wins.

Portsmouth v Birmingham

91 percent of Birmingham's goals were netted from inside the penalty area - the highest Premiership ratio. Yakubu Aiyegbeni fired in 95 shots last term - which was only bettered by Juan Pablo Angel and Thierry Henry.

Middlesbrough v Newcastle, live on Prem Plus - 17.15

Boro have won only one of their eight Premiership derbies at home to Newcastle United. Alan Shearer scored 42.3 percent of Newcastle's goals last term - a higher percentage than any other player.

Sunday:

Everton v Arsenal, live on Sky Sports 1 - 14.00

The Toffees are the only team to have taken points off the reigning champions on the opening day of a Premiership campaign. Arsenal are unbeaten in a Premiership record 40 games but Everton ended their previous record run in 2002.

Chelsea v Man United, live on Sky Sports 1 - 16.05

Frank Lampard has missed just one of the 114 league games he could have featured in since joining Chelsea - he was suspended. United conceded 66 percent of their goals in the second half last season - the highest proportion in the top division.
